Join Larry Jordan as he talks with:

John Buck Editor and Author, “Timeline: A History of Editing”

We often get so caught up in the “new” and “now,” that we forget that it grew out of what was in the past. John Buck has been an editor since he needed a way to cut his Super 8mm movies for screening in a makeshift neighborhood cinema, and to enter his work in young filmmakers’ festivals. After being fired from his full-time job as a junior agency TV producer, John was advised by his father to “get a job that people can understand what it is that you do.” Instead, he began a thirty-year editing career that spans MTV Awards, SuperBowl commercials, and highly-rated TV shows. He’s written a fascinating book on the history of electronic editing – called “Timeline – A History of Electronic Editing” – and this week, he explains that the software we edit on today had its roots in a toy shop in Paris in 1924.

Philip Hodgetts, President, Intelligent Assistance

Philip Hodgetts, CEO, Intelligent Assistance, is a regular contributor to The Buzz and joins us to talk about his reactions to John Buck’s book: Timeline. Philip has long been fascinated by history and the role the past plays in determining the future of technology. We asked Philip to join us this week to provide a second perspective on the serpentine route editing hardware and software has taken over the last 100 years.

Jessica Sitomer, President, The Greenlight Coach

Jessica Sitomer President, The Greenlight Coach, is another regular on The Buzz. This week, we wanted to spend a bit more time talking with her — about the business of running a business. Specifically, how to successfully run a virtual office. How and when should you do sales calls? What type of communication works the best? What’s the most effective relationship to have with a client? How do you stay focused when you are constantly traveling? As always, Jessica has great ideas and tips to share with all of us.
