Digital Production BuZZ

Jul 22, 2011

This week, we look at creating art and music. Join host Larry Jordan and co-host Michael Horton as they talk with:

Dr. Barry Sandrew, Founder, CTO, and COO, Legend3D

The last time we spoke with Dr. Barry Sandrew, Founder of Legend3D, was during our NAB 2011 show coverage. At that time, he described how they convert 2D images to 3D. (Think of the process as motion tracking a whole variety of different shapes, then setting each shape to a different depth in the image.) Well, since we spoke, hs company has done more than half of the 2D to 3D conversion for the third installment of the Transformers series. Plus, they’ve done the 3D conversion work for Alice In Wonderland, the Shrek series, and the recent Green Lantern. We invited Barry to join us this week to discuss the whole process of converting a film to 3D, how their system works, and what producers can learn from it.

Tom Bennett, CEO and Co-Founder, Pond5

We are delighted to welcome back Tom Bennett, Co-Founder of Pond5, the stock image, video, and music company, to talk about stock images. How do you decide which stock house to sell your images? How do they keep your images safe? And what are the advantages to royalty free images and audio? Tom explains what you need to know in the ever-changing world of stock.

Randy Hart, Creative Services Director, Aircast Custom Music

Stock music fills a big need – especially for low cost music. But sometimes, getting the right emotional impact, or timing, is much more important than saving money. That’s where custom music comes in. Randy Hart, Creative Services Director for Aircast Custom Music (a division of Megatrax) joins us this week to discuss the whys and hows of creating custom music. Megatrax has been a go-to supplier of production music for many years. Aircast is their division for creating custom music. We can’t wait to hear more!

Bruce Nazarian, The Digital Guy

Bruce Nazarian — The Digital Guy — is a regular on The Buzz. This week, he’s wearing his musical hat as we continue learning more about the business side of music. Specifically, we want to learn his preferences to creating royalty-free or custom music; which do musicians like better. Then, with Spotify finally coming to the US, we talk with Bruce about the new music service and what, if anything, makes it unique. We already know what, Bruce joins us to explain why.
